Shine NETWORK
ShineGIRL and ShineWOMEN have been presented successfully across the breadth of the local community, and beyond. Shine is currently being run in close to 400 diverse organisations across Australia, New Zealand, United States of America, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, Vietnam, Ukraine, Russia, United Kingdom, Germany, Malawi, Guyana, Thailand, Holland and Luxemburg.
Shine has proved to be an adaptable program, used in various local settings to reach girls and women of all ages, in every community. It has been presented in urban, rural and regional high schools, behavioural schools, community centres, church groups, orphanages, juvenile detention centres, women's correctional centres and in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
We have not found economic status, cultural or religious diversity to be an issue. Through our evaluations we can see that Shine has a strong and positive impact on girls and women from indigenous and culturally diverse backgrounds.

ShineNETWORK FEEDBACK
The Southern Downs Industry Education Association (SDIEA) based in Queensland, Australia has utilised the Shine program to encourage young ladies in the school system to remain engaged in learning.
In Queensland the State Government's Education & Training Reforms for the Future challenges all education and training providers to develop appropriate, targeted and needs based learning opportunities to ensure all young people in the state complete year 10 and then go on to complete their senior years of school.
SDIEA youth worker Clare Hine has run six Shine programs in schools across the district. Clare has found that the Shine program is an excellent medium in which to identify and provide early intervention and prevention strategies.
Mrs Hine said, "During our Shine programs, no subject is taboo, as a group we discuss and deal with issues as they arise, the girls certainly respond to this."
"Mrs Hine also identified a need for a group of indigenous mothers to have an avenue to discuss and workshop some of the issues that they are facing as parents of teenage girls"," she said.
"We have had great feedback from students, teachers and parents with students lining up to be part of the program. It has been so successful that teachers have donated substantial amounts of money towards the program. One head of school attended the graduation and said that seeing the change in the girls was the highlight of her year. We have currently been asked to take on a whole class (16 girls) which has been a real problem class with girls self harming and many other complex behaviours."
[G.A. - College Chaplain, Brisbane, QLD 12-JUL-07]
"We are continually getting feedback from members of the community about how it is visibly transforming the lives of young women…"
[North QLD 4-APR-07]
"Two Assistant Principals attended the graduation with us and the comment from one was ‘did you know...when these girls are participating in your Shine course, we don't hear from them, they stay out of trouble...it's like it gives them something to focus on, a purpose'. It was awesome to see that they can recognise a correlation between girls participating in Shine and the amount of time they spend in the Principals office!! Their comments were, ‘this is just what girls need; it's perfect for them.' They have again pencilled us in for next year". [Hope Generation, 20-NOV-06]
"…churches in Kiev are running Shine and that it is really bringing the women in the churches together…"It is amazing how fruitful the program is going in schools and orphanages." [Ukraine, 10-NOV-06]
"We are experiencing great success in our Shine programs and are seeing more schools and community agencies getting interested in this program. I mentioned to you that we are working on starting a program for our Sudanese community. We are currently working with the migrant resource centre and are about to start visiting families and making connections with the girls" [Newcastle, NSW]
"The lives of the girls and women in Guyana is so hard that this program is making an amazing impact" [Armstrong, Guyana, 7-JUN-07]
